Rotworms: Vermis Putridus![]()
| "Rotworms are a very ancient race that lives in the dungeons of Tibia. They dig in the earth and wait for unconscious victims which they devour in one piece. Hidden in the earth they are unsusceptible for distance fighting weapons. In packs, they are quite dangerous even for experienced adventurers". From The Tibia Library |
The oldest still available documentation of an encounter with rotworms is the diary of the Thaisan explorer Batvick Storbar, who lived during the rule of King Tibianus the first. The text runs as follows: “Day ten. Today we had a most strange experience. Ye soldiers that Our Most Blessed King had kindly provided me with found a strange tunnel that had not been seen ye day before. As we entered, we saw that ye tunnel was indeed newly digged. But it ended just a few hundred metres into ye hill. As we were going back, one of ye soldiers screamed, and we looked and saw that ye ground below his feet had turned into a fanged mouth that swallowed him whole. Ye other men ran towards him, but ye mouth had disappeared again. We dared not go any further and made our hasty retreat. I wonder what foul sorcery is going on here…” Where this incident happened has never been made clear. But after lot of archaeological research, it has been made clear that the rotworms are indeed an ancient race, perhaps even pre-dating the humans. Over the years they have never really evolved very much, other than growing slightly larger. Physical characteristics Living places Ways of war Social structure

Rotworms are strange creatures. They are shaped like small fat snakes with a huge, fang-edged jaw in one end. It is usually of the same size as a human. What most people see when fighting these creatures is their mouth. It has many muscles around its edges that can contract it and make it look like any ordinary pile of dirt. These muscles are also useful for swallowing their prey. A rotworm can swallow things that are double their size and even larger. Their body consists almost completely of an extremely powerful digestion system. The bulbous back of the rotworm contains a stomach that can turn almost any object into energy. Only a very small part turns into dirt that the creature throws up regularly. Most of the skin of a rotworm is covered in small, sharp barbs that break down the earth as the creature moves beneath the ground. The rotworm has very good eyes, and it has been speculated that they can even see through dense earth. They actually possess small brains and therefore shouldn’t be thought of as normal worms.![]()
Rotworms lives far beneath the surface of the world. Here they dig tunnels where they hunt for anything that is edible. There are theories that the rotworms are living so far beneath the earth that they have found artefacts from the ancient ages. Objects such as strange horned helmets (commonly known as “Viking helmets”) and mysteriously shaped swords (known as “katanas”) have been found in the bodies of dead Rotworms. Rotworms seems to live all over Tibia, except the dry deserts. It has been hypothesized that this is because of the dry soil in these regions.![]()
Rotworms are predators and usually hunts in packs. They try to swallow their enemy whole, but can also bite them very hard with their sharp theets, which are usually used to crush rocks. Rotworms often carries weapons in the stomachs, but they have no way of using them. They rely on the thick skin for protection. There have been no reports of rotwoms attacking in armies, and other races seem to avoid using them.![]()
Rotworms lives in packs, which usually contain about five or less creatures. There has never been evidence of higher ranks in these packs, but some scientists have theories that the rotworms have “Alphas” and “Betas “ just like wolves.![]()
No language has ever been reported, although some people believe that the rotworms uses mental communication.
