Ex-Tibianews Deputy Editor Thuddy was interviewed by our ex-staff member Omega Man.
Tibianews: First of all, this is a fairly special interview. We would like to thank you Thuddy for taking the opportunity out of your busy schedule to be interviewed.
Thuddy: It's an honor to even be asked.
Tibianews: To begin I will ask you one of the most frequent questions, how did you discover Tibia?
Thuddy: Back in May 2003 my RL friends actually wouldn't shut up about it and would never want to hangout because they had to "Level Up!" in Tibia, and one day I was over at his house and made an account and played ever since.
Tibianews: A lot of us know you as former GM Thuddy. How were you appointed to the honourary position of Gamemaster?
Thuddy: Funny story, actually. When I was asked, all of us that were asked at that time (or atleast most) were all friends. Vauban, Trithaithus, and I were all pretty close and when we were all asked it was quite amazing. As already said by past interviews, Craban came up to us (it was on a test server) and we were all asked at the same time. Since we were all friends, I remember each of us sending our applications to each other to make sure they were OK, and always giving each other positive thoughts.
Tibianews: Wow that’s great. One second you’re killing someone, the next second you’re asked to server as a Gamemaster. How did you adapt to the first day and week as a Gamemaster?
Thuddy: The first day was quite weird, actually. Since the time zones are quite different, I was on Tibia at 3 AM in the morning and Craban ended up being late (coming two hours later). We finished just in time for server save, and after that it seemed like everything was going to be okay. Some of the older GMs that I've known, such as Rebel, Issy, Borr, and Dazetih came in and checked on me for the first few days and helped me out with whatever I needed. It was easy to adapt, I think since everyone in the team was really accepting and helpful. The only thing that was hard to adapt to was adjusting to the friends I had made in the game (as they treated me differently) and the people I talked to, as everyone wanted more out of me than I can possibly give. I'm sure this is why GMs are hidden now.
Tibianews: Yea, heh. I know what you mean, it is really tough to have Gamemaster friends at times because they believe you only want to be their friend because of their newly aquired power, however, ¾ of the time that is not true. Anyways, after retiring as Gamemaster you were appointed to “Senator”. Why did you give up the position as Senator as well?
Thuddy: Back in February I started playing Tibia again, somewhat, and became more active. I emailed Crabs asking him to remove my position as Senator so I could try out for the tutor test. Sure enough, I failed. Seems I'm not so smart after all.
Tibianews: Hahahha, ok… not funny. Evidently you were smart enough since you did have that blue cape. Alright, now lets focus a bit more on Tibianews. When were you appointed to Deputy Editor and how did you cope with the tasks behind the position?
Thuddy: If I remember correctly, I was appointed back in December of 2005? I think. Ex and I had talked on a daily basis and I was already extremely active on TibiaNews, so the adding of being a Deputy wasn't so bad, but it just meant that I needed to
also focus on helping the front page get updated as soon as possible, and I usually did that when I had extra time, somewhere in between waving my wand of banning, hunting, answering those *ridiculous* "IT WAS MY BROTHER" complaints, and leveling up and making runes. As well as trying to have a real life and focus on real life. Busy man I was. xD
Tibianews: What is an ordinary day like for you when working on Tibianews?
Thuddy: Ordinary? Looking on the forums for some shortnews material, updating it, and updating a PoTD as well as using my whip to keep the Staff and Journalists in check. Extra ordinary? Coming up with new forums and new ranks and new ideas all within 1 hour.
Tibianews: Ah, I remember that day . Do you have an estimate towards how long we at Tibianews must wait before the huge update?
Thuddy: Wish I could really put a time frame on it. Unfortunately, Ex is the only one to ask. And each time I try, that man is busy with his company, so I figure I better not bother the poor guy. I'd say keep our fingers crossed for at least before summer.
Tibianews: Once the site is updated we are aware that deputies will have the ability to edit the bestiaries, is this true? If so, what else will they be allowed to update?
Thuddy: As far as I know (so don't hold me to my word incase I'm wrong and go attempt to kill me) once the update is here, the deputies will be able to update pretty much everything. The front page, the bestiaries, horoscopes, anything and everything.
Tibianews: Awesome!! If there was one thing in Tibia you could change, what would it be and why?
Thuddy: Honestly, I think a lot in Tibia is fine as it is. I'm not going to give you the cliché expression and say "No more cheaters!” they'll always be around. I just noticed that a lot of the newer GMs (not saying all, so new GMs don't hate on me) are not lenient at all. It sort of saddens me that Tibia doesn't have as many empathetic and sympathetic GMs these days where they actually put themselves in that person's shoes and warnings aren't dished out at all. It's "OK YOU DID THIS? BAM!" So if it's one thing I could change, it'd be that gamemasters were more... more of a community type person that actually understood the players.
Tibianews: Thank you for the honest answer. If you had one thing you could tell the Tibianews readers, what would it be? It can be anything and everything, no pressure.
Thuddy: Actually, I just want to thank all the people that have given TibiaNews support through all the rough bumps it’s had over the past few months. To the people who say they like us, all the way to the people that flame - whichever one you are, it shows you care either way. If you flame, it means you expect more out of us, and it gives us a guideline to go through. If you compliment, it shows us that we're at least doing something right. Either way something positive can come out of it.
Tibianews: Very true. Do you have any goals in Tibia, that is, if you still play?
Thuddy: I don't really play anymore, no, just visit a few times. One I guess would be to at least get my Securan (this character, actually) to level 20 so I can promote myself. Otherwise, I'm fine with everything. Most of my goals lie within TibiaNews now.
Tibianews: In your Tibian life, have you ever done something you regret to this day?
Thuddy: Might as well answer since honesty is key, eh? Actually, yes. I've made friends with some of the wrong people, I've gotten into many "fondles" such as a big "THUDDY IS EMORRA" fiasco, which I just sat back and watched happen when I could've stopped myself but that's all okay. I felt bad at the time, but it's just a game. Feelings are hurt on it yes, but people get over things.
Tibianews: Once again, thanks for the honest answer. What is an ordinary day like for you, outside of Tibia?
Thuddy: Waking up to an annoying alarm clock ad 6 and wishing to go back to bed. Then going to school, ending up doing some club activities afterwards then hanging out with my friends, and then practicing karate. That's pretty much my life in a nutshell.
Tibianews: I’m going to end the interview by asking you some quick, fast-paced questions, Are you ready?
Thuddy: No, but go ahead. xD
Favourite monster? Parrot
Favourite item? Are you serious? A teddy bear of course!
Favourite person and why? I'd have to say Excessus. Through everything Ex has always had a positive view. He's completely awesome.
Favourite fansite? Tibiamx.mx.com, no just kidding. Tibianews.net of course!
Tibianews: This was a fun interview. Thank you very much for the interview Thuddy. I’m sure you have a lot of work, for Tibianews that is :p. Good luck!
Thuddy: No problemo. And yeah, I mean, I have to post this interview for you now.. makin' me do my work Good luck to you, too.
