What do YOU know about Dago?
Report: Tibianews

Dago the Mage

Deep beneath Mount Sternum, a sinister scene can be found. It's a mysterious chamber, guarded by two demon skeletons; a dead man lies beside a sacrificial stone. Upon closer examination, a book can be discovered among the possessions of the dead man. The book, entitled How to summon black demons seems to have been written by a certain Dago the Mage. Is this the corpse of the deceased magician, Dago? What exactly happened here?

2. Dago the magician

Dago was one of the greatest magicians of his time. He wrote many books on topics related to magic, and is considered an authority on the topic of summoning. Dago perfected the common summon spell, adding many creatures to the list of available summons. But still he went further, summoning creatures like dragons and behemoths. During his studies, he discovered the existence of a creature of unspeakable power, which he named the Black Demon. In his most popular book, How to summon black demons, he explains the theory behind summoning, and how to go further than the simple summoning of a common creature like a demon skeleton. The magician describes the black demon as the perfect summoned creature. He believed it was created as the ultimate summon due to the natural reaction after the countless instances of summoning that occurred over time in Tibia. How and why precisely it happened, he cannot explain. But Dago couldn’t wait to summon a black demon for himself.

His first attempts didn’t go as planned, though he still broke every summoning record possible. Dago summoned a regular demon from the demonic realm, something considered impossible. Sadly, he couldn’t control the ferocious beast. As a result of several attempts, he lost a thumb, his favorite pet spider (Redips) and even his assistant, Didimus. All three of them were buried in the Graveyard of the doomed.

Despite his losses, he went on trying to summon the black demon. At one point, Dago found out what he had been doing wrong all that time. Excited as he was, he shared his findings with his disciple, Skjaar. Soon after, a terrible explosion completely destroyed Dago’s castle. From depths of Tibia, magma and fire emerged, forming a volcano in the original location of the castle. What happened to Dago himself? Skjaar presumed he lost his life due to the eruption of the volcano, as a result of his successful summoning of the black demon. The mage’s disciple built a crypt, wherein he constructed a grave for his old master.

3. What really happened?

The dead body found in the sacrificial chamber was indeed Dago. He discovered in the end that the only way to successfully summon a black demon was through the sacrifice of lesser beings. The bodies of these weaker creatures would be used as vessels to channel the unholy energies into Tibia. What Dago had not anticipated, however, was the amount of energy that was released. The two demon skeletons he summoned to carry the energy-load were insufficient for the task. Unable to contain the unholy energies that erupted, they materialized and crumbled the earth, with the volcano as disastrous result. Whether he really succeeded in summoning the black demon, we don’t know ... but let’s hope not. Let’s hope the unholy energies that were released disappeared as suddenly as they emerged, and were not able to concentrate into a single being. A creature with such power would surely disaster if let loose on Tibia!
